LTO for Data Security and Archive

DIT Services is now offering an LTO 7 and 8 archive and restore service. Please feel free to reach out via the contact page to discuss your requirements.

Why LTO?

LTO is a very reliable tape based format for efficiently storing large amounts of data. The tapes are designed for long term storage, allowing for up to a 30 year shelf life. In comparison; traditional hard drives are much more volatile, with a greater risk of failure. They usually have a life span of around 5 years and do not make ideal archival mediums due to changing interfaces and their high cost per TB.

Compared to a spinning disk archive, the cost per TB is much more economical when archiving to LTO. LTO 8 offers an uncompressed 12TB of data per tape, where the raw cost of the tape is under £100. Consolidating your current archive to LTO not only ensures its longevity, but also frees up physical space taken up by multiple hard drives.

Our LTO Services

We think LTO is a great solution for long term archive of film production data. DIT Services can offer an LTO 7 or 8 archive and restore from our Cardiff Bay office. If you are interested in the benefits of LTO, but don’t want to shoulder the initial setup costs of the drives and software, please get in touch via our contact page.
